Softscapes & Hardscapes

Clients ask me all the time, “what is the difference between hardscape and softscape?” Hardscape elements are just that, “hard” such as bricks, wood, concrete, stones, and other materials. Pools, decks, patios, rock gardens, and retaining walls are all considered hardscape and a vital design element for the overall Landscape Plan. Hardscape elements are extremely important for extending and improving your outdoor living experience.

The term landscaping is often used when the correct term should be softscape. Softscapes encompasses grasses, shrubs, trees, vegetable gardens and other vegetation. Working together softscape and hardscapes are elements which make up the Master Landscape Design Plan.

As with all of our design work, we strive to deliver unique elements customizing to your specific needs.  Normal is boring, at least in our eyes.  Our reputation is based on offering custom designs and building those designs to a high level of craftmanship. Following are a few examples for reference.

Patios, Decks & Firepits

Designing and building patios and custom decks is one of our favorite projects.  As with all of our designs, client collaboration is key allowing us to identify the perfect outdoor living room to fit within the space. Clients often ask, “Will I use a firepit?” and my answer is almost unequivocally “Yes.” Adding a firepit will heighten your enjoyment of your outdoor space offering cozy nights around the fire with friends, family, making smores or sipping wine.  Weather your stye is a contemporary tempered gas fire bowl, or a traditional wood burning firebox, we have the knowledge and experience to bring your vision to life.
